Marie-Louise Bachman

Vitterhetsakaclemiens bibliotek (Library of the Royal Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities) started as a small collection of books, used by some of the members of the Academy. In the course of the nineteenth century it developed into a library open to the general public with continually increasing collections. For a considerable number of years the library was mainly used by the staff at the National Heritage Board (RiksantikvarieƤmbetet), the Museum of National Antiquities (Statens historiska museum) and the Royal Coin Cabinet (Kungl. myntkabinettet), the institutions associated to the Acaclemy. This was changed during the later half of the twentieth century when students and researchers became frequent users. A statement from the early 1920s "The library is ... one of the best special libraries in the field of archaeology in Europe and is much used by researchers", has been true ever since.
