(Church building and church room - research issues.) This volume presents perspectives on restoration and restoration ideals relating to Swedish churches from different centuries. It is the result of a conference held in 2012, in which some thirty scholars participated. The five essays concern how different restoration ideals have lasted during the centuries. In three contributions examples are given from medieval local churches, in Dalby and Östra Ingelstad in Scania and from Öjebyn church in the northern part of Sweden. In one essay, on the restoration of the baroque cathedral of Kalmar, the architectural aspects are in focus, showing how modern restoration theories have influenced the building. A survey of the different restorations of Uppsala Cathedral up to 1970, is presented, based on a recently finished research project on the cathedral. The final essay, with examples from Scanian medieval churches, discusses how the architect Theodor Wåhlin changed the restoration ideal from style to contemporary function.
